| Mustard Seeds | to splutter |
| Castor Oil | 1 tsp |
| Salt | to taste |
| Oil | 2 tsp |
Method
- Soak toor dal for atleast twenty minutes and pressure cook adding garlic cloves,castor oil and turmeric powder.
- Dry roast coriander,cumin,pepper,red chilli,channa dal,urid dal,coconut and grind them into a slightly coarse powder.
- Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds,add curry leaves,asafoetida,onion,tomato and saute for a while.
- Now add little water and powdered spices.Add tamarind paste to this and cook until raw smell of spices goes off.
- Lastly add cooked toor dal and add salt and cook for ten more minutes and transfer to a serving bowl.

- Garnish with coriander leaves if desired.
- While dry roasting a teaspoon of toor dal can also be added.
- This sambhar is a nice combo for idli,dosa.
