Chicken Gravy


Ingredients

Chilli Powder1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder1/4 tsp
Red Chilli2
Coriander Seeds1 tblspn
Cumin Seeds1 tsp
Pepper1/2 tsp
Aniseed1/2 tsp
Cinnamon1 piece
Clove3
Cardamom2 pods
Curry Leavesfew
Oil1 tbl sp
Saltto taste

Cooking Steps

  • Marinate chicken with turmeric powder and chilli powder and keep it aside.
        










  • Dry roast all the spices from red chilli to cardamom.Grind them into a paste.
     
  • Heat oil in a a sauce pan,splutter some aniseed,add curry leaves,chopped ginger and garlic and fry till they become slightly brown.Now add chopped onions,saute for a while and then add chopped tomatoes.
       
  • Once the tomatoes have become mushy add the spice paste and mix them well.Cook for ten minutes and grind them after cooling.
  • Add the paste to the pan and then add chicken and salt and cook till the chicken has become tender.

Aval Upma/Poha Upma

Preparation time:15 min

Cooking time:10 min

Cooking Steps

  • Wash the aval and keep it aside.Meanwhile chop all the veggies.Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds,add onion,carrot,beans and saute till the veggies become tender.
  • Now add capsicum,salt and give it a toss.
  • Finally add aval and mix.Transfer to a serving bowl.

Little Words

  • Capsicums are rich in Vitamin C with red capsicum at the top.Other coloured capsicums or a mixture of all coloured capsicums can be used.

Aloo Gobi


Ingredients

Cauliflower1 small flower
Potato1(par boiled)
Onion1(finely chopped)

Pepper Powder1 tsp
Chilli Powder1/2 tsp
Garam Masalaa pinch
Coriander Powder1 tsp
Cumin Powder1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder1/4 tsp
Cumin Seedsto splutter
Mustard Seedsto splutter
Oil1 tsp
Saltto taste

Cooking Steps


  • Cut the cauliflower into small florets and wash.Boil water in a vessel and add the florets to this.After ten minutes drain and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan,splutter cumin seeds,mustard seeds,curry leaves and little salt.

  • Add all spice powders excluding pepper powder.Add salt,water and cook for five minutes.
  • Now add the cauliflower and potato parboiled and cut into small pieces.Then add pepper powder and give it a toss and serve.

Little Words

  • Pepper powder can be added along with other spices.
  • Tastes great with sambar,rasam.

Veggie Egg Rolls

Ghee/Oilto drizzle

Cooking time:10 min

Cooking Steps

  • Break the eggs into a bowl,add salt,pepper powder and beat them well. 
  • Add onion,carrot,beans,green chilli and mix them well.  
  • Heat a tawa/skillet and drizzle oil or ghee.Pour a laddle of the egg veggie mix and spread just like you would do for an omlette.
  • Now roll it carefully from oneside and then drag it to the edge of the skillet from where you started rolling with a spatula.Then pour the egg mixture so that it patches up with the rolled one. 
  • Roll them carefully,cut them into bite size pieces and enjoy hot.

Little Words

  • Avoid green chillies if you are making for kids.Or add chillies later after preparing for kids.
  • Let the heat be medium throughout the entire process.

Spicy Chappathi

Cooking Steps

  • Cut the chappathis into small pieces.Heat oil in a pan,add onion,ginger garlic paste and fry till golden brown.

  • Now add tomato,turmeric powder,chilli powder,garam masala,salt and cook till the tomato becomes mushy.

  • At this stage add chappathi and give it a toss.

  • Now add egg,pepper powder and mix everything together.Garnish with coriander leaves,squeeze lemon juice and serve.

Little Words

  • Curd raita can be served as an accompaniment.

Cabbage Poriyal

Ingredients

Cooking Steps

  • Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds,add curry leaves,green chilli and onion.Fry till the onion becomes transparent.
  • Add the cabbage,stir well and add salt.Now add water just enough to cook and cover with a lid.
  • After ten minutes remove lid and add the egg.Let the white to settle down and then scramble the egg along with the veggie so that it is mixed evenly.

Ragi Puttu

Ingredients

Ragi Flour1 cup
Sugar1/4 cup
Ghee2 tbl spn

Cooking Steps

  • Heat one tea spoon of ghee and add ragi flour.
  • Fry this in medium flame by adding the remaining ghee little by little till it changes colour.This will take about 8 to 10 minutes.

  • Now add sugar and fry for 2 to 3 minutes in low flame till the sugar mixes well with the fried flour.

  • Jaggery can be used instead of sugar.
  • Sugar coats with the flour and this gives a crunchiness.
  • All ghee can be added at the first step.Am adding in portions just for even mixing.

Fruity Nutty Rice

Pomegranate1 tbl spn
Ghee1 tsp

Cooking Steps

  • Heat 1 tsp of ghee in a pan and roast the nuts.
  • Now add cooked basmati rice and give it a stir.

  • Add a pinch of salt and then add all the fruits,give it a toss and fruity nutty rice is ready to eat.

  • The choice of nuts and fruits may vary according to your taste.
  • Adding salt is optional.
  • Kids are sure to love this yummy rice.

Mooli/Radish Cutlet

Potato1(boiled & mashed)

Chilli powder1/2 tsp
Garam Masala1/4 tsp

Cumin Powder1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder1/4 tsp
Cumin Seedsto splutter
Bread Crumbs1/4 cup
Oil1 tbl sp
Saltto taste

Cooking Steps

  • Heat 1 tsp of oil in a pan and splutter cumin seeds.Add onion,ginger garlic paste and saute till brown.

  • Now add grated radish/mooli,turmeric powder,coriander powder,chilli powder,cumin powder,garam masala,salt and sprinkle some water ,cover with a lid and cook.
  • Take this in a bowl,add mashed potatoes coriander leaves and little salt.
  • Make small balls,flatten them between  your palms and roll them in bread crumbs.


  • Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry them till golden brown and serve with any chutney or sauce.

  • Instead of grated mooli,boiled and mashed mooli can also be used.
  • Children who don't like radish are sure to love this.
