Homemade Pizza

Prep Time:40 m     Cook Time:1 hr
Makes:4 pizzas 7"inch size

Ingredients

For the Pizza Dough
Wheat Flour           - 2 cups
Dried Active yeast - 1 &1/4 tsp
Salt                         - to taste
Warm Water           - 1 cup

For the Sauce
Tomato               - 7
Dried Herbs        - 1/2 tsp
Garlic                  - 4 cloves
Tomato Ketchup - 1 tbl sp
Paprika                - 1/2 tsp
Salt                      - 1/2 tsp
Gingelly Oil        - 2 tsp

For the Topping
Cheddar Cheese    - 1 cup
Mozarella Cheese - 1 cup
Mushroom            - 4
Capsicum              - 1
Onion                    - 1
Gingelly Oil          - for brushing

Method

  • Place yeast in a large mixing bowl and add warm water to it.Leave this for fifteen minutes and then add salt and flour to this.
                          
       
  • Knead it into a smooth soft dough.Cover this with a soft damp cloth and set aside for an hour.Now the dough would have risen up well almost doubled in size.Knock it back down,knead again and cover with cling wrap until the other ingredients are ready.
       
  • Blanch the tomatoes in boiling water for ten minutes or until the skin peels off.Let it cool,peel off the skin and chop the tomatoes or puree them.Heat oil in a pan,add the chopped garlic,saute till garlic turns brown and then add the chopped tomatoes.Add salt,paprika,dried herbs and tomato ketchup and boil well for fifteen to twenty minutes or till the sauce thickens.
                            
                                      
                              
  • Preheat the oven for thirty minutes.The temperature has to be high as 450 F or even more if your oven could reach.Now divide the dough into four equal parts.Take one portion and flatten into a circle of about 7" in diameter.Sprinlke some fine sooji/semolina on the tray the pizza is baked and gently transfer the pizza base onto the tray.
                               
       
  • Now spread the pizza sauce we made as much as desired.Spread grated cheddar cheese and mozarrella cheese.Finish with capsicum,mushrooms and onions.Place it in the oven for twelve to fifteen minutes or till the crust has become slightly brown.Cut into slices and enjoy hot.
                             
                          
       

Little Words

  • Plain flour can be substituted instead of wheat flour.
  • The toppings can be chosen and assembled as desired
  • The dough can be prepared even a day before and referigerated.
  • The temperature of the oven has to be very high.
  • Sprinkling sooji helps to avoid sticking to the tray.
  • I have used only basil leaves and mixed herbs can be used as desired.
