Ingredients
Yellow Split Peas - 1 cup
Vegetables - 1 cup(grated carrot,beet,cabbage)
Onion - 1
Green Chilli - 1
Salt - as needed
Oil - to deep fry
To Grind
Ginger - a small piece
Garlic - 4
Aniseed - 3/4 tsp
Khus Khus - 1/4 tsp
Cinnamon - 1"piece
Clove - 3
Red Chilli - 2
Method
- Soak the yellow split peas for an hour.Add all the ingredients to grind and grind slightly coarsely.
- Now add finely chopped onion,green chilli ,salt and the grated vegetables.Mix them all together.
- Meanwhile heat oil in a kadai to deep fry.Make small balls and flatten between palms and gently drop into oil and fry both sides.Place on a kitchen towel to absorb oil if any and then serve plain or with chutney.
Little Words
- After adding veggies if the batter becomes loose sprinkle rice flour.
- Adding beetroot gives a nice pink colour and also a slight sweetness in the vadai.
