Verkadalai Podi

Ingredients

Peanuts              - 1 cup
Coriander Seeds - 2 tsp
Cumin Seeds      - 1 tblsp
Red Chilli          - 4
Salt                    - to taste

Method

  • Dry roast all the ingredients.
                                            
       
  • Cool them and grind into a slightly coarse powder and store in an airtight container.
                                             
       

Little Words

  • If desired rub off the skin of the peanuts between your palms.
  • Garlic cloves can be added if desired.
  • Serve with hot rice with ghee drizzled on top.
  • Add few more chillies to get the original fiery red hot colour.

Peanut Chutney


IngredientQuantity
Peanuts1/4 cup
Coriander Seeds1 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds1/2 tsp
Pepper 1/2 tsp
Urad dal1/2 tsp
Red Chilli1
Onion2 tblsp
Tamarind Paste3/4 tsp
Saltto taste
Oil2 tsp

Cooking Steps

  • Roast peanuts till they crackle.To remove skin,gently rub with palms.
  • Heat oil,add red chilli and onion and fry till onion changes brown and set aside.
                
  • Now roast coriander seeds,cumin seeds,pepper,urad dal till flavour wafts out.
                               .
  • Add tamarind paste,salt and little water and grind.

  • Yummy with rice and ghee,nice combo for dosa.
  • Removing skin is optional.It varies the colour of the chutney.
  • Coconut can be added if desired.
  • Remove the red chillies else it may get burnt.
  • Spices may be roasted one by one to avoid burning.
