Pepper Chicken Idli/Milagu Kozhi Idli Varuval

Prep Time:10 m     Cook Time:15 m
Servings:3

Ingredients

Boneless Chicken - 300 g
Idli                      - 6
Onion                  - 2
Pepper Powder    - 4 tsp
Salt                     - as needed
Gingelly Oil         - 1 tblsp

Method

  • Marinate the chicken with two teaspoons of pepper powder and salt.Meanwhile slice the onions.
       
  • Heat oil in a pan,add the sliced onions and saute with little salt.Then add remaining pepper powder.
        
  • Now add the chicken pieces and saute for a minute.Add required salt and close this with a lid.
       
  • After ten minutes remove lid and toss in the idli cut into bite size cubes.Give it a stir and transfer to serving plates.Serve with curd or just plain.

Choco Idli

Prep Time:5 m       Cook Time:12 m
Makes:6

Ingredients

Idli Batter        - 1 cup
Cocoa Powder  - 1/4 cup
Sugar               - 2 tblsp

Method

  • Mix cocoa powder and sugar to the idli batter.Grease an idli plate with oil and pour the batter into the idli moulds.Steam cook for ten to twelve minutes.Insert a skewer and when it comes out clean the idlis are done.Serve with honey or whipped cream or even as such with little more sugar.

Chilli Idli


Prep Time:15 m      Cook Time:20 m
Serves:2

Ingredients

Idli                        - 8
Onion                    - 2
Tomato                 - 3
Ginger                  - a small piece
Garlic                   - 3
Mustard Seeds       - to splutter
Chilli Powder        - 1/2 tsp
Coriander Leaves   - to garnish
Tomato Ketchup     - 2 tsp
Masala Chilli Sauce - 2 tsp
Oil                          - 4 tblsp
Salt                         - to taste

Method

  • Cut the idli into small bite size pieces and fry them in a shallow pan with two to three tablespoons of oil.
       
  • Now heat a tablespoon of oil,splutter mustard seeds and add onion and saute for a while till onion becomes soft.Then add grated ginger and garlic and fry till raw smell goes off.
       
  • Add the chopped tomatoes,turmeric powder,chilli powder and salt.
       
  • Cook this for about five to ten minutes and then add tomato ketchup and masala chilli sauce.Then stir in the fried idli pieces and toss well so that the masala coats well with the idli pieces.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with onion raita.
